Mark A. Moreno

 

Mark Moreno was born and grew up in the Chicago, Illinois area. He received his Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign in 1980 and earned his law degree in 1983 from Creighton University in Omaha, Nebraska. He was admitted to the South Dakota State Bar in 1983, the Nebraska State Bar, United States District Court for the District of South Dakota and the United States Court of Appeals for the Eight Circuit in 1984 and the United States Supreme Court in 1987.

Mr. Moreno worked as an Assistant Attorney General for South Dakota from 1983 through 1985 and as a Special Assistant Attorney General from 1986 to 2000. He served as Hughes County Deputy State’s Attorney from 1986 to 1988 and as State’s Attorney from 1989 to 1993. In 1993, Moreno was appointed as a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the District of South Dakota (presently a half-time position) and continues to sit in this capacity. He joined the Schmidt, Schroyer, Moreno, Lee & Bachand Law Firm in 1986 and is one of its senior members.

Moreno’s practice focuses on administrative, alternative dispute resolution (mediation and arbitration), appellate, business transactions, civil litigation, contract, criminal, estate, government, guardian/conservator, personal injury, probate, real estate and trust work.

Moreno enjoys staying active in his free time running, biking, walking, reading and spending time with his family.
